This Guide is now Obsolete.

Recently I have seen a lot of players saying that Lag is a great issue when joining the server, now do keep in mind Pixelmon 4.1 is a BETA so it is not entirely the Server's fault, make sure these helpful tips can lessen the lag or dispose of it completely for you.

  • [1] Try using the Minecraft debug menu. To do this Press the F3 key on your keyboard. This menu will tell you a lot of very important information like how is Minecraft doing in terms of Performance (FPS - Frames per second) What Java and Forge type you have installed (Top right Menu for Java/Top left for Forge type), and how much memory you have given the game to use (Top right of the debug screen it should say, "Mem" and "Allocated").

Why does the type of Java matter?
Well 32 bit Java is meant for 32 Bit PCs which are either older, or less powerful than 64 Bit PCs, so you would want Java to be the same Bit type as your PC to get the best performance out it.

How do I know how much RAM I gave my minecraft client?
Like said previously you should Open the F3 menu, to the top right it should say, "Mem" and "Allocated" next to those are Numbers with "MB" next to them, MB means Megabytes and the number is how much you have set.

What is the Difference between "Mem" and "Allocated"?
Well "Mem" means how much RAM minecraft is using currently while the game is being used."Allocated" Means how much RAM you have told minecraft to Preserve as a limit, how much memory you have given Minecraft to use basically.

I am only so Young and don't understand how to completely use my PC yet, any help?
No, you're on your own! ;) Just kidding.

This link can Help you dearly with that issue, Just remember to scroll down to where it says, "Installing 64-bit Java on your system" At the bottom of the page.
    Link: https://java.com/en/download/faq/java_win64bit.xml
Here is another link for a Bit more depth to understanding how to install Java.
    Link: http://java.com/en/download/help/firefo ... nstall.xml
Also here is the link to download the right 64 Bit Java if you know how to install it already.
    Link: http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
All you need to do is click "Windows Offline (64-bit)" It should send you a setup file that will be Java 64 Bit. :D

I have Java 64 bit installed, but I still lag, what do I do now?
Remember the "Mem" and "Allocated" menu info I said before? Well now you need to tell Minecraft "hey off the couch and do your paperwork!" Adding more RAM so it can render things faster. Look at these pictures for more guidance.

See how the JVM arguments box is Highlighted, checked and has weird Text in the box? That is telling Minecraft how much Memory to use so the game can render certain things, oh and their will be a bit more added text to the Arguments text box since the Photo is from an older version of Minecraft. The second Photo shows you how to get to that Menu. All you need to do is change the number where it says -Xmx1G to something that your PC can handle like -Xmx2G Before you set it to a High amount, Make sure to check your PC's specs! If not you can potentially make your PC blow up :o Not really, but it will suffer and crash if you do. In order to find out about your PCs specs go to this link.
    Link: http://www.wikihow.com/Check-Computer-Specifications

Find your right PC and follow the instructions listed, once you have found out how much RAM your PC has, you can set Minecraft up with more Memory. Make sure you give your PC enough Memory to run too, like I said before wouldn't want it blowing up now, giving it about 1 or 2 extra Giga bytes wouldn't hurt much, Unless you have a 2GB Ram. ;)

My forge version is the latest version for 1.8, but I can't start my game?
That is because Pixelmon is set to use somewhat Older Forge versions. The Pixelmonmod download page has all the correct Forge versions and links for you to use with ease :D Just in case here is a Link to that too! Link:http://pixelmonmod.com/downloads.php

[2] Another way to reduce lag is to Download the latest version of the mod Optifine. Currently the latest version is [OptiFine 1.8.0 HD U F8] So installing that mod Into your .minecraft/mods folder just like you did with Pixelmon. Not only does Optifine increase FPS, but doubles it, Removes the effects of Rain and weather, and Gives you a convenient little Zoom button.

Here is the link to Optifine.
    Link: https://optifine.net/home

Here is a quick link to the latest version of Optifine.
    Link: http://optifine.net/adloadx?f=OptiFine_ ... D_U_F8.jar
You may need to set up a few settings to get the best out of it, although not many Tutorials can be found that is because the Mod has its own Built in tool-tip system Implemented! If you hover your Mouse over a few of the Video settings they should give you easy to understand details and Dialog boxes that even a five year old can figure out. Cool right?

[3] The next way to reduce lag is to either Change Minecraft's Priority in your PCs task manager or To close any unused Windows/Applications you have opened. Say like you have a YouTube video open while Playing Minecraft or The Wiki Open while playing. Close those windows out and the lag should disappear

How do I set a Higher Priority to minecraft and open the task manager?

These YouTube Videos should help best with that, although Mac and Linux may need a few extras to be able to change priority.
Windows Link:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2wHwE17z2sU Goto 3:20 in this video.

Mac Link:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpUB3LiW9cw You may need to download the Program ATMonitor. Here is the link for that http://www.atpurpose.com/atMonitor/

Linux Link:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9OcnRVVV1U *This is the best Tutorial video I could find for Linux users, just go to about 1:50 in the video and Right click on the Process Javaw and it should have a drop down menu where you can change its Priority, Never, ever, ever, set it to Real-time unless your PC is super Beefy.

[4] Yet another way to reduce lag, although it is VERY, I put caps because it is Incredibly dangerous to do, is to Over-clock your Graphics card. I won't put any Links nor Tutorials for this method since I don't want to be Liable if anyone makes a mistake... :? Best thing for you to do in order to find out more about this is To trek it yourself, Google is your very best ally, and you do need to research a lot of Info about your PC, Graphics card, Other experiences Over-Clocking your Exact and Specific Card, how far you can Overclock it before it can be Harmful. So get to School and Start studying!

[5] Another way to fix or Find why you are lagging is to always check with your ISP (Internet Service Provider) such as Comcast, AT&T, Net-Gear, etc. If your internet is having issues that will mostly be the reason that you are lagging. Maybe you have too many Devices Connected, too much info is being sent out, or something else? Good idea to always check! :)

[6] Aren't I wonderful? Oh! :o umm ... Another way!! :? To reduce lag is to Find out if your PC is overheating, when certain PCs remain on for too long it can always have a toll like any other Device, maybe your Coolant is damaged, or your fan is going a bit slow? The easiest way find out is to touch the Grill (part where the fan can breathe) and see if it can heat up your Palm, if it does heat your Palm turn it off for a few hours or so to let it rest, otherwise try your hand at Overclocking. (Please for your sake actually do the research before going in headfirst)

[7] Lastly, Downloading a certain Application like Game-booster by RazerCortex can help a bit with Different users too!
Here is the link to that!http://www.razerzone.com/cortex

Hopefully this is easy to understand and I helped a few of you Peeps with That Pesky little creeper Called "lag"  Have fun catching them all, and making New friends in the Unlimited server that is Limitless

I'd like to point out that people with x32 (or x86) can set a max of 1280MB of ram allocated to Java (Tested this myself). Hopefully knowing this will help others out :)
